Between us, we have collected thousands of books and the idea of a library fitted in with the character of the house so we created one. Guests are welcome to browse and read while they are here (though we make it a rule never to lend books). Jennifer has created a focal point above the impressive marble fireplace by using pages from an old dictionary as an unusual kind of wallpaper. There are three comfortable sofas to lounge in and in the evenings the Roman blinds, made of a fabric which suggests ancient tiles or carvings, hang flush against the white woodwork around the windows, giving a feeling which is at once ancient and modern. There is also a library of CDs, and a classic B&O wall-mounted CD player which guests are welcome to use.
